Lily Allen's cruel ridicule of England fans after Euros loss
Lily Allen's reaction to Sunday evening's Euro 2024 final between England and Spain has been slammed by English football fans.
In heartbreaking scenes on the pitch, England succumbed to an 86th minute strike from Mikel Oyarzabal to make the score 2-1 and ensure Spain took home the trophy.
But while many in the country were devastated to see Southgate's team fall at the final hurdle, singer Lily Allen had a very different reaction.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, following the final whistle, London-born Allen shared an image mocking English football fans.
In the AI-generated image, several inconsolable, overweight, middle-aged white men are depicted in tears while holding pints of beer and adorned in Union Jack flags while rain pours on them in a field.
Several of Allen's 4.9million X followers were quick to take issue with the singer mocking the stereotype and appearing to take delight in England football fans' upset.
"Why do you despise the working class?" one fan quickly asked her before a second echoed: "We get it, you hate working class people."
A third blasted the singer by typing: "Peak Oikophobia from Lily Allen here, so cringe."
And a fourth echoed: "There's something wrong with you to think its OK to take p**s out of working class men. Did your dad teach you that?"
The criticism kept coming from a fifth who fumed: "Imagine being this nasty, bitter and self loathing. Leftism has radicalised so many luvvies."
And a sixth hit out: "This being the wrong flag aside, mocking working class people is so tasteless especially when you're a nepo baby who faked a working class accent to fuel your entire career." (sic)
