Gang rapist finally kicked out after mutiny on plane kept him in UK

A migrant convicted of rape whose deportation was thwarted five years ago by virtual signalling airline passengers has been repatriated to Somalia at a taxpayer cost of £1million, which includes legal, prison and deportation costs.

Yaqub Ahmed, 34, was originally scheduled to fly on a commercial flight in 2018, but passengers objected and insisted on his removal.

In a video released last year, Ahmed can be seen handcuffed and screaming as authorities escorted him to his seat on the plane.

Passengers can be heard defending him, with one saying: "He says they’re separating him from his family, his family’s here."

And another exclaims: "When he gets to Mogadishu, they're going to kill him."

Amid the strong opposition, four Home Office officials eventually removed Ahmed from the plane, prompting applause from passengers.

"You're a free man," a man in the crowd yelled as the gang rape convict exited the plane.

During the five years following his release by fellow passengers, the convicted rapist cost taxpayers £1million.

This large sum includes £85,000 in legal aid and £200,000 for his chartered flight.

When he returned home, he spent 14 weeks in a luxurious hotel, complete with armed guards and a personalised therapy package, all paid for by British taxpayers.

Ahmed's victim has lashed out in frustration at the UK legal system, saying it "isn't fit for purpose".

She said: "The fact they had to give him this outrageous package to be able to remove him is ridiculous.

"I'm grateful they did everything they did because we are finally rid of him but they shouldn’t have had to do that."
