Boat migrant crossings last month SIX TIMES higher than Oct 2020
New figures this week have shown a near sixfold increase in the number of migrants crossing the Channel compared to October last year.
So far in 2021, some 20,000 migrants have successfully made the dangerous journey, dwarfing the 8,410 who arrived the previous year.
Now new Home Office stats showed that a mere 475 migrants crossed the Channel in October 2020, compared to the 2,669 that made the journey despite poor weather conditions last month.
The Home Office also revealed the French authorities intercepted 15,000 crossings with an interception rate of 43 per cent.
September saw the highest monthly total with 3,879 migrants making the dangerous crossing.
It is estimated that the annual total could reach 22,000, triple that of last year.
Currently there are allegedly around 2,000 migrants near Calais waiting for people smugglers.
