50 youths with weapons fight on Dorset beauty spot

A mass brawl broke out on a Bournemouth beach just a day after two children tragically drowned at the site.

The fight was said to be between around 50 youths wielding weapons.

Officers from Dorset Police were reportedly called to the beach at 3.02pm Thursday afternoon and one person was detained.

A young person who was at the scene of the fighting was treated for minor injuries, the force said. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

This came after a 12-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were pronounced dead on Wednesday after a major incident at the beach in Dorset which saw ten people pulled from the sea.

Andy Martin, who saw the fight break out, tweeted yesterday that there was a 'massive brawl' involving 'bats and weapons'.

He wrote at 3.20pm: 'Can't believe that in the exact same spot on the beach where 2 children died yesterday, there's a massive brawl involving 50 youths with bats and weapons. '

Dorset Police told the Mirror: 'Dorset Police received a report at 3.02pm of a disturbance involving a large number of young people on the beach near to Bournemouth Pier.

'Officers attended and one person was detained in connection with the incident.

'At this time one person has been treated for minor injuries and no further injuries have been reported.

'Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.'
